Railway Compensation For Death: Railways said on Sunday (June 4) that those who were traveling without tickets have also been included in the accident victims in Odisha. Passengers without tickets will also be compensated. Officials said that this will be done as per the order of the Supreme Court.
Railway spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said, “Irrespective of whether the passengers had tickets or not, they will be compensated.” Railway Board Operations Member Jaya Verma Sinha said that every injured passenger admitted in hospitals is accompanied by a scout or a guide, who is helping to trace his next of kin.
Senior railway officials answering questions on 139
Jaya Verma Sinha said that on helpline number 139, senior railway officials are answering questions and trying to connect with as many people as possible. “The family members of the injured or deceased can call us and we will ensure that they can meet them. We will take care of their travel and other expenses,” he added.
’10 lakh rupees in case of death’
Railways also said that 139 service will continue uninterrupted and prompt disbursement of the ex-gratia amount announced by the Railway Minister – Rs 10 lakh in case of death, Rs 2 lakh for serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries – will be ensured .
According to the Railways, 275 people have lost their lives so far in the horrific accident between three trains in Balasore, Odisha. After two days of the accident, the families of many passengers are searching for their loved ones. Relief rescue work is going on continuously at the spot. More than 1100 people are said to be injured in the accident.
