West Bengal Panchayat Elections: The West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday (July 3) informed the Calcutta High Court that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the sending of the remaining 485 companies of central forces for the panchayat elections, taking the total number of companies of central forces to 822. HC had given this instruction to SEC

The West Bengal State Election Commission informed a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam that it received information on Monday that the ministry has approved 485 companies of central security forces in addition to the 337 companies approved earlier. The high court had on June 21 directed the SEC to send a request to send over 82,000 central forces personnel for deployment in the panchayat elections. The matter will be heard again on Tuesday (July 4).

Violence increased after the announcement of election dates

Actually, the dates of Panchayat elections were announced in Bengal on 8th June. Since then, violent incidents are being seen in the state. Panchayat elections are to be held on this 8th July itself and its results are going to come on 11th July. Recently, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was shot dead in Phulmalanch area of ​​Basanti. The deceased has been identified as Jiyarul Molla.

Locals claim that the TMC worker was on his way home when suddenly the attackers shot him in the head and killed him. At the same time, 13 deaths have taken place in Bengal after filing nominations for the Panchayat elections. This is the reason why approval has been given to send 485 companies of central force to prevent such violent incidents in the state.
