Delhi Goal Market: Delhi’s famous and historic Gol Market will now be seen in a new avatar. This famous shopping center of the British era is now being converted into a museum. For this, a proposal has been passed to give a new look to the surrounding area including Gol Market. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena (LG VK Saxena) has decided the theme of this historical market apart from giving approval to make it a museum. This museum will be built on the theme of women who enhance the honor of Delhi and the country.
Museum to be built on India’s women theme
This museum will be dedicated to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Sucheta Kriplani, Mother Teresa, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, astronaut Kalpana Chawla, India’s first woman IPS Kiran Bedi, late Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, boxer Mary Kom and other women. The life and major events of these inspiring women will be included in the museum.
The project was pending for more than a decade and a half
This project was pending since the year 2006. Earlier it was targeted to be prepared before the Commonwealth Games, but due to various reasons this work could not be completed. After the intervention of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the work of this museum increased rapidly. He inspected the proposed museum within a few days of taking charge. After this, the theme related to this was discussed in the meeting with Union External Affairs Minister Meenakshi Lekhi.
The surrounding area will also be beautified
The aim of NDMC is not to demolish the existing structure, but to renovate it. According to NDMC, there will be an underground passage and lift from various routes to enter this museum. Along with the sale of symbols, there will also be arrangements for food and drink. Restaurants will also be made for this. This museum will be equipped with modern technology. According to NDMC, this museum will be very attractive, as well as beautification of its surrounding area. All necessary arrangements including parking will be made for the people coming here, so that people do not face inconvenience. Under this project, it is proposed to construct a glass dome-like structure in the main building of the museum, false ceiling, insulated roof structure on the first floor, fully air-conditioned service tunnel and lift etc. Rs 21 crore will be spent on this scheme and a target has been set to complete it within a year.
The history of Gol Market is more than a hundred years old.
The history of Gol Market is more than 100 years old and it contains a lot of history in itself. Gol Market was designed by Edward Lutyens in the year 1921. At that time all the government employees used to reside around it. British officers were also involved in this. This market was built for them only. It was a major shopping destination for them in a way. Even in its construction, there is a glimpse of British architecture and historicism. Over time, Delhi’s famous colonial market fell into disrepair and was declared a ruin in 2007.
