Delhi News: Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) of the national capital Delhi is the busiest and modern airport in the country. Elevated Eastern Cross taxi-way and fourth runway are also going to be included in its list of facilities. Both these facilities of IGI Airport are ready for inauguration. It is to be formally inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on July 13.
Eastern Cross Taxi-way (ECT) is an elevated flyover connecting Terminal 3 to Terminal 2, which is quite unique in itself. Aircraft will be seen running from above and vehicles from below. Whose scene will definitely be amazing. With its construction, both aviation fuel and time will be saved for the planes coming from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3. Till now, while it takes 25 to 30 minutes for the planes to travel from Terminal 1 to 3, covering a distance of 9 kilometers, with this elevated taxi-way, this distance will be reduced to 2.1 kilometers and the planes will take only 12 minutes to reach the terminal. It will take 15 minutes.
Use permitted by security agencies
According to the information received from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the length of ECT is 2.1 km and width is 202 meters. The purpose of making it was to connect Runway 29 to Terminal 1 with a short-cut way. CISF, Bureau of Civil Aviation, Delhi Police, IB, NIA and other security agencies operating at the airport have also given permission to use this elevated taxi-way considering it safe. With ECT, the world’s largest airplanes A-380, B-777 and B-747-8 will also be able to move comfortably. Its width is such that even if A-380 aircraft have to come and go from both sides of the ECT at the same time, their wings will not touch each other. ECT will enable movement of about 300 flights every day. Keeping security in mind, high walls have been built on both sides of the ECT. Watch towers have also been built here, on which security personnel will be stationed.
India’s first airport with 4 runways
At the same time, the fourth runway of IGI Airport has also been completed. With its opening, IGI Airport will become the first airport in the country to have four runways. Only select countries around the world have airports with four or more runways. Its length is 4.3 kilometers and it has been named 11L-29R. This runway is built parallel to the old third runway 11-29.
Airplanes will not have to go around
After its launch, the number of flight movements will increase from here. At present, IGI Airport has the capacity to handle up to 1500 flights in 24 hours. At the same time, with the commencement of this new runway, the movement of flights will increase from 1700 to 2000 every day. Due to this, there will be no need to wait for the take-off of the flight, while there will be no circling in the air to land the planes during busy times. After the commencement of this new runway, there will be two runways equipped with CAT-3 system.
