Famous Madhubani painting artist Padmashri Godavari Dutta passed away, CM Nitish Kumar expressed condolences

Painting Artist Padmashri Godawari Dutta Passed Away: Padmashri Godavari Dutta, a renowned artist of Madhubani painting, died today on Wednesday (14 August) in Ranty village of Rajnagar block of Madhubani. She was 93 years old. Her body was kept in the courtyard of Ranty village for the villagers and district residents to see. Godavari Dutta received the Shilp Guru Samman in the year 2006 and the honorary degree of D.Litt through Darbhanga University in 2019. On 16 March 2019, she was given the Padmashri Samman by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind. Her family includes a son, a retired bank manager, four granddaughters and a grandson.

The Chief Minister expressed deep condolences on the demise of Padmashree Godavari Dutta, a famous artist of Madhubani painting. CM Nitish Kumar has said in his condolence message that Late Godavari Dutta ji, originally a resident of Darbhanga, played a major role in getting Madhubani painting recognized in the country and abroad. His demise has caused an irreparable loss in the field of art and culture. The Chief Minister has prayed to God to give strength to the family and fans of Late Godavari Dutta to bear patience in this hour of grief.

Padmashree Godavari Dutta’s granddaughter Preeti Karna said that on 14 August 2024, at around 12 noon, famous Mithila painting artist Padmashree Godavari Dutta passed away during treatment. Godavari Dutta was ill for the last few days. The entire art world is saddened by her death, many artists, officials and common people have expressed their condolences to her.
