In today’s busy life, not getting proper sleep at night has become a common problem. Many people stay awake till late night, whether it is due to work, habit of watching mobile and TV, or due to some other reason. But do you know how dangerous this habit of staying awake all night can be for your health? Not getting proper sleep increases the risk of many serious diseases, let’s know about it.

Heart diseases
The biggest impact of lack of sleep is on your heart. When you do not get enough sleep, your heart works harder, which increases the chances of increasing blood pressure. Persistent high blood pressure can cause serious problems like heart attack and stroke. Apart from this, lack of sleep can cause irregular heartbeats, which also increases the risk of heart failure.

Diabetes
Lack of sleep also affects your body’s metabolism. When you don’t sleep well, the amount of insulin in your body can deteriorate. Insulin is the hormone that controls the sugar level in your body. If insulin does not work properly, it can increase blood sugar levels, which increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Depression and mental health
Good sleep is also very important for your mental health. When you don’t get enough sleep, the balance of chemicals in the brain can be disturbed, which can lead to problems like mood swings, anxiety, and depression. Consistent lack of sleep has a negative impact on mental health, which also affects the quality of life.

Staying up late at night increases hunger and people often consume unhealthy snacks at this time. This habit can cause weight gain. Apart from this, lack of sleep slows down the body’s metabolism, which reduces calorie burn and leads to weight gain.

Effects on the immune system
Good sleep keeps your immune system strong. When you don’t get enough sleep, your immune system weakens, making your body less able to fight diseases. This can cause you to catch colds and other infections more often.

Easy ways to get enough sleep

  • Fix a sleeping time: Make it a habit to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. This will help you sleep on time.
  • Stay away from mobile and TV: Switch off the mobile and TV one hour before sleeping, so that the mind can calm down.
  • Choose a quiet and dark room: A quiet and dark room is better for sleeping, it helps in falling asleep quickly.
  • Do relaxing things: Read a book, listen to music or meditate before going to bed; this will calm your mind and help you sleep better.
