Send notice in simple language, Finance Minister’s advice- fear should not sit in the mind of the taxpayer!

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given special instructions to the Income Tax Department regarding sending notices and dealing with taxpayers. The Finance Minister says that tax officials should adopt a taxpayer-friendly attitude. She also said that the language of tax notices should be easy so that everyone can understand it.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was addressing tax officials on the occasion of the 165th Income Tax Day. She said that the faceless system has been introduced to simplify the process for taxpayers. Now after the system of faceless assessment, tax officers should adopt a fair and friendly attitude in dealing with taxpayers.

The language of the notice should be simple and plain

He said that whenever a tax officer sends an income tax notice to a taxpayer, he should use his power properly. The language of the notice should be simple so that everyone can understand it. The aim of the Income Tax Department is never to instill fear in the minds of taxpayers. That is why the language of tax officers should be simple and plain.

State this clearly in the notice

According to the Finance Minister, instead of giving vague statements in the notice, taxpayers should be told directly why they are getting a notice from the Income Tax. The Finance Minister says that enforcement steps should be the last option. The entire effort of the tax department should be to ensure that taxpayers voluntarily comply with the laws and provisions.

Instructions to expedite the issuance of refund

On this occasion, the Finance Minister also talked about the delay in getting income tax refund. He said that there is a lot of scope for issuing income tax refund faster. This comment of the Finance Minister becomes important because this year a large number of taxpayers are complaining about months of delay in processing income tax returns and issuing refund. The Income Tax Department may be claiming that processing has been expedited, but in case of refund, the department is taking more than 2 months in processing. This is causing months of delay in getting refund.
