Birthday: The festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated across the country today. Every year Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month. On this special day, let us know what is the relationship between Lord Shri Krishna and Shani Dev and why mother Yashoda did not allow Shani Dev to come inside the house at the time of his birth.

The story of Shri Krishna and Shani Dev

According to mythology, when Lord Shri Krishna was born, all the gods and goddesses reached Nandgaon to see the Lord. Shani Dev also reached here to see Shri Krishna.

But mother Yashoda did not let him enter the house, mother Yashoda did not want Shani’s cruel eyes to fall on her son, that is why she refused to let Shani Dev in. Shani Dev felt very bad about this and saddened, he went to the forest for meditation and penance.

After some time, listening to the sweet sound of Lord Shri Krishna’s flute, women were attracted and started coming towards the forest, then Shri Krishna took the form of Kokila i.e. Koyal and gave darshan to Shani Dev.

Lord Krishna appeared before Shani Dev and asked him the reason for his penance. Shani Dev said, I am just performing my duty of justice, then why consider me cruel. Along with this, Shani Dev also told the Lord about his sorrow of not being able to see the child Krishna. After this, Lord Krishna blessed Shani that those who worship him will get relief from their troubles and after this he asked Shani Dev to live in Nandanvan. Since then, Kokilavan of Mathura is known as Shanidham.
