Ansar Force Protest: The situation in Bangladesh has not been good for the past few months. After a major violent demonstration in the neighboring country, an interim government led by Mohammad Yunus was formed. The situation was just getting normal when suddenly Ansar Force has put Bangladesh in trouble. Last Sunday, the demonstration of Ansar Force members demanding job security turned into violence, in which at least 40 people were seriously injured. This demonstration has put Bangladesh in new trouble.
The unrest caused by the demonstrations of the paramilitary auxiliary Bal Ansar Force in Bangladesh has posed a major challenge to the Yunus government. The government is already going through a delicate situation and the Ansar Force’s protest has acted as a hammer blow on it. The demands of nationalization of jobs and better working conditions by the Ansar Force have put the government in a dilemma, which can have far-reaching political and social implications.
Gets 540 taka per day
There has been discontent in the Ansar Force for a long time. The reason for this is said to be the uncertain working conditions of the Ansar personnel. Especially those who are part of the General Ansar Division. Unlike the Village Defense Party and Battalion Ansar, the members of General Ansar are recruited on the basis of daily wages. They get 540 taka every day which is not enough for living. In such a situation, the people of Ansar Force are demanding nationalization of jobs. With this demand, the Ansar Army gathered in front of the National Press Club last Sunday and marched towards the Bangladesh Secretariat. These people were holding a peaceful rally when suddenly violence started in it. When the officers resisted, the Ansar Force created a ruckus which turned into violence.
352 people were arrested
The conflict between Ansar Force and the government reached a bad stage when Dhaka University students also joined them on hearing about the detention of prominent student leaders. The government took strict action and arrested 352 people. The debate has also increased on the way the Yunus government is handling these situations. It is being said that the infighting within the Ansar Force has flared up even more. After this, the Home Ministry has formed a 7-member committee to review the demands of Ansar members.
When was Ansar Force formed
Talking about Ansar Force, they have played a significant role in the security of Bangladesh. Despite all this, they had to face problems for a long time. Ansar Force came into existence on 12 February 1948, immediately after the partition of India. The Pakistan government created Ansar Force to maintain internal security in East Pakistan, i.e. present Bangladesh. When the Indo-Pakistan war took place in 1965, they were included in the war and deployed at the posts built on the border.
Not only this, during the Bangladesh freedom struggle in 1971, the Pakistan government had dissolved the Ansar Force, but despite this, 40,000 Ansar members participated in the freedom struggle and thousands of them lost their lives.
