Old Pension Scheme: The central government has recently launched the Unified Pension Scheme for its employees. This scheme is going to be implemented from April 1, 2025. But, some trade unions have already rejected it. Their demand is that only the Old Pension Scheme should be implemented. Now a senior official has said that UPS will not be withdrawn. He said that we cannot take a U-turn in this matter.
Trade union demands, government should not take contribution from us
According to a report by Live Mint, he said that we have never gone back on our policies. This will not happen in the case of the pension system either. If we had to take back the decision, then NPS would have been abolished. Trade unions want that like the Old Pension Scheme, no contribution should be taken from the employee in this as well. He said that the government has created UPS by combining the benefits of OPS and NPS. In this, along with fixed pension, the government has also increased its contribution. Apart from this, provision for family pension and minimum pension has also been made. The Union Cabinet approved it on Saturday. This will benefit 23 lakh employees.
We will not put pressure on any state for UPS
He said that if the states need, they can take advantage of this scheme of the central government. We will not put pressure on any state for UPS. This is a scheme brought for the employees of the central government. An attempt has been made to make it better than the NPS and the system running in the private sector. Employees have to contribute 10 percent of their salary in UPS and the government will contribute 18.5 percent instead of 14 percent.
There will be no decision on tax in the GST Council meeting
He said that no major decision is expected regarding tax in the GST Council meeting to be held on September 9. A status report will be presented in this meeting. The Council of Ministers will discuss it. After this, the issues will be placed before the GST Council. He said that the states do not want to discuss about reducing the rate on the product. Their priority is the revenue of the state. This meeting is going to be chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
