Ali Saifuddin Mosque: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi PM Modi is on his two-day visit to Brunei, on Tuesday he reached Brunei’s capital Bandar Seri Bagan. PM Modi’s Brunei visit is being described as very special because this is the first visit of any Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. On the completion of 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, PM Modi inaugurated the new complex of the Indian High Commission in Brunei. PM described the High Commission as a symbol of strong relations between the two countries. He said that it will serve the NRIs. The High Commission building made of Kota stones shows India’s rich cultural heritage. PM Modi then reached the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque located in the capital.
Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is one of the two national mosques of Brunei. It is also the national symbol of Brunei. This mosque is also one of the largest and oldest mosques in the country. The mosque is named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III (1914-1986) who was the 28th Sultan of Brunei and the father of the current monarch, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. This mosque is a symbol of Islamic faith in the country.
When was Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque built
After reaching the mosque, PM Modi himself shared the pictures of the place. It is said that the construction of the mosque started on 4 February 1954 and this mosque was completed in about 5 years. At that time, the construction of this mosque cost more than 11 crores. The mosque was built by Malaysian architectural firm Booty Edwards & Partners. 700 tons of steel and 1500 tons of concrete have been used in the construction of the mosque. The depth of the foundation of the mosque is 80-120 feet.

The mosque in Brunei that PM Modi visited was inaugurated in 1958 during the 42nd birthday celebrations of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin III. The architecture of this mosque resembles the Indian Mughal Empire. Lakhs of tourists come every year to see the mosque. Talking about the size of the mosque, it is 69X24 meters. 3 thousand devotees can sit together in the mosque. The maximum height of the mosque is 171 feet and the dome is covered with gold.
