ANI Podcast: Before the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC) leader and former CM Omar Abdullah has made a big statement. He has called the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru wrong. He said this in a recent podcast with news agency ANI.
Omar Abdullah told ANI’s Smita Prakash, “No purpose was served by hanging Afzal Guru. If we had, we would never have approved it.” He also said that he does not believe in the death penalty because it raises questions on the judicial system.
National Conference will reinstate Article 370
On the question related to the restoration of Article 370, Omar Abdullah said, “Article 370 and the special status of Jammu and Kashmir are part of the ideology of the National Conference. It is not something we will surrender. However, it is not something this assembly will be able to do. There will need to be some governmental changes at the Centre before we can start resolving the issue. It took the BJP decades to do this and we are not naive to think we will be able to do it in five years.”
There is still a long battle ahead: Omar Abdullah
