Jammu Kashmir News: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha approved the resolution passed by the cabinet led by CM Omar Abdullah, which urged the Center to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
There is a need to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019 to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. This will have to be done by the Central Government by passing the bill in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It will also have to be sent to the President for approval.
In the cabinet meeting of Omar Abdullah, a proposal related to restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir was brought but there was no mention of Articles 370 and 35A. Let us tell you that in August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir was converted into a Union Territory and the region of Ladakh was separated from it and made a separate Union Territory.
At the same time, Article 370 was also repealed. Omar Abdullah’s National Conference had also included the issue of making Jammu and Kashmir a full-fledged state in its manifesto and the first proposal on this was brought in the cabinet. Such information came to light on Thursday that the draft of this proposal was before the PM. Narendra Modi Will also be handed over and Omar Abdullah himself will go to Delhi for this.
Why did Congress keep itself isolated?
Let us tell you that Congress has decided not to join the cabinet. The party says that the party will not join the cabinet until Jammu and Kashmir gets full statehood. Although the National Conference had offered a ministerial post to the Congress.
Omar’s hands tied after becoming a Union Territory
Elections were held here for the first time after Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory. Since there is no state status, many rights are now with LG. CM Omar Abdullah’s powers will be quite limited. At the same time, according to the new rules, the number of ministers in Jammu and Kashmir should not exceed 10 including the CM. This number can be only 10 percent of the total number of MLAs in the assembly.
