More than 20 lakh Pakistanis reached hospitals in a month! ‘Poisonous’ air becomes headache!

Pakistan Air Pollution: Air pollution remains a serious problem in Punjab, Pakistan. So far 20 lakh people have fallen ill. According to the provincial health department, more than 1.91 million people suffering from respiratory diseases have been admitted to government hospitals in Pakistan last month.

In fact, the continuously increasing pollution has most affected the Punjab province of Pakistan, where smog and dangerous air quality levels have created a serious threat to the health of the people. Maximum cases have been registered in Lahore. The toxic smog forced more than 75,000 people to seek medical help in a single day, putting further pressure on the healthcare system.

More than 20 lakh people reached the hospital

Last month, 133,429 cases of the respiratory disease, including 5,577 asthma patients, were reported in Lahore alone. Additionally, 5,455 out of 13,862 heart disease cases and 491 out of 5,141 stroke cases in Punjab were treated in Lahore. The crisis worsened in the last week, with 449,045 respiratory cases reported. Also, 30,146 asthma cases, 2,225 heart disease patients and 1,400 stroke victims were reported.

Air quality is continuously worsening in Lahore

In view of this crisis, the government has taken many major decisions, which include closing schools, colleges and parks, limiting the opening timings of markets and banning polluting vehicles and industrial activities. Despite these decisions, the air quality in cities like Lahore and Multan continues to deteriorate. Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) consistently remains above hazardous levels, often crossing 1,000, while Multan recently recorded a hazardous AQI of over 2,000.
