In the 1971 elections, Indira Gandhi got 1,83,309 votes and defeated her opponent Raj Narayan by 1,11,810 votes. Raj Narayan got 71,499 votes.

Indira Gandhi lost the 1977 elections to Raj Narayan by about 55 thousand votes.

In the 1980 elections, Indira Gandhi got 2,23,903 votes and Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia got 50,249. In this way Indira won by 1,73,654 votes.

Rajiv Gandhi-

In the 1981 by-election, Rajiv Gandhi defeated Sharad Yadav by 237,000 votes.

In 1984, Rajiv Gandhi contested elections from Amethi, in which he got 3,65,041 votes. While his opponent Maneka Gandhi got 50,163 votes. In this way, Rajiv Gandhi won this election by 3,14,878 votes.

In 1989, Rajiv Gandhi got 2,71,407 votes and his opponent Raj Mohan Gandhi got 69,269 votes, thus he won this election by 2,02,138 votes.

Rajiv Gandhi won the 1991 elections by 1,12,85 votes.

Sonia Gandhi-

Sonia Gandhi had contested elections in 1999 from Bellary in Karnataka and Amethi in UP. In Bellary he defeated Sushma Swaraj by 56,100 votes. In which he got 4,14,650 votes and Sushma Swaraj got 3,58,550 votes.

At the same time, Sonia won the Amethi seat by 3,00,012 votes and represented it.
