Jay Shah ICC Chairman: Jay Shah was elected the new chairman of ICC on August 27, 2024. He became ICC Chairman unopposed. However, he had to take over the post of chairman from December 1. Now the date has become 30th November, hence from tomorrow i.e. 01st December (Sunday) Jai Shah will take over the post.
Till now Jay Shah was working as the Secretary of BCCI. It is worth noting that to assume the post of ICC Chairman, Jay Shah will have to leave the post of BCCI Secretary. He was given the responsibility of BCCI Secretary in 2019. However, till now nothing has been officially clarified by BCCI regarding who will take over the responsibility of the post of Secretary in the Board after Jay Shah.
Will replace Greg Barclay
Jay Shah will replace the current ICC chairman Greg Barclay. Greg Barclay did not show any interest for the post of chairman this time. Let us tell you that ICC had abolished the post of President in 2016. Zaheer Abbas was the last President of ICC. Since then the post of Chairman has been going on. The International Cricket Council appointed chairman for the first time in 2014, when N Srinivasan got this responsibility.
Jay Shah is not the first but the fifth Indian to reach ICC. Before this, a total of four more Indians have reached ICC. Jagmohan Dalmiya was the first to reach ICC from India’s side. He was the President of ICC between 1997 and 2000.
After this, Indian politician Sharad Pawar reached ICC. Sharad Pawar served as ICC President from 2010 to 2012. Before reaching ICC, he was also the President of BCCI between 2005 and 2008.
Then industrialist N Srinivasan became the third Indian to reach ICC. He played the role of ICC Chairman between 2014 and 2015. N Srinivasan is also the co-owner of Chennai Super Kings.
After this Shashank Manohar became the fourth Indian to go to ICC. He served as ICC Chairman from 2015 to 2020. Now Jai Shah will become the fifth Indian to join this list.
