Latest WTC Points Table: India-Australia These days New Zealand-England and South Africa-Sri Lanka are busy in test series. The results of the matches taking place in these Test series are having a deep impact on the race for the World Test Championship final. After India’s victory in the first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, while the African team’s victory against Sri Lanka, the race for the final has reached a very exciting turn. Till a few weeks ago, South Africa was not even remotely in the race for the title clash, but now if it wins the next 3 matches, its place in the final will be almost assured.
India is currently sitting on the top in the points table of the World Test Championship, whose points percentage is 61.11. Team India still has to play four more matches, the result of which will decide whether it will be able to reach the Test Championship final or not. Currently South Africa is at second place, whose points percentage is 59.26. Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka remain at third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Final equation for all teams
If India, sitting on top, defeats Australia by a margin of 4-0 or better in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, then it will get direct entry into the finals. If this does not happen then Team India will have to depend on other teams for a place in the finals. South Africa still has to play one test against Sri Lanka and two against Pakistan. If the African team wins the next three matches, then it will be almost certain that it will go to the finals.
There are 6 matches left in Australia’s current Test Championship schedule. If the Kangaroo team has to go to the finals, it will have to register four or more wins. New Zealand’s path to reach the finals at number four has now become almost impossible. At the same time, Sri Lanka, which created a stir with its performance in all three formats in 2024, desperately needs to win the next three Test matches to enter the title clash.
