The name of Lord Ganesha of Ashadh Krishna Chaturthi is Krishnapingal. Worship Lord Krishnapingal only according to the scriptures. Hey Maharaj! In Dwapar era, there was a king named Mahijit of Mahishmati city.

He was a very virtuous and glorious king. He looked after his subjects like his own children. But because he himself was childless, the king did not feel happy even with the splendor of all kinds of royal ceremonies etc. In the Vedas, the life of a childless person is considered meaningless.

If a childless person donates water for his ancestors by performing tarpan etc., then his ancestors accept that water as summer water. The king spent a lot of time in this confusion. He performed various types of penance, charity and yagya etc. with the aim of having a child, but the king did not get the happiness of having a child.

Time passed and the king’s age diminished. The king grew old, but he did not beget a child. After that the king decided to discuss this matter with the learned Brahmins, knowledgeable people and the people. The king said, O Brahmins and people, we have remained childless, so what will be my fate? I have not committed even the slightest sin in my life. I never took away anyone’s wealth or woman through torture.

I have always followed the people like a son and have ruled only through righteous conduct. I have punished thieves, robbers and wicked people. He has always arranged for food for his favored friends, kept in mind the welfare of cows and Brahmins, and has given respect to well-mannered and virtuous people. What is the reason for me not having a child?’ The learned Brahmins said, ‘O Maharaj, we will make every effort so that your dynasty grows.’ Saying this, everyone started thinking of some strategy to get the king a child. To fulfill the king’s wish, all the people went to the forest with the Brahmins. They saw a great sage in the forest.

That sage remained fasting and engrossed in rigorous penance. Like Brahmaji, he was a self-conquered, angry and eternal man. That Mahatma was a complete Veda-expert, blessed with long life, infinite and full of knowledge of many Brahmas. His holy name was Lomash Rishi. In every Kalpanta, one of his hairs would fall. That is why he became famous by the name of Lomash Rishi. All the people including the king and the wise people started having darshan of Trikaldarshi Maharishi Lomash. Everyone reached near Tejaswi Muni and everyone stood in front of him with due respect.

After getting the darshan of the sage, all the people present there became happy and said to each other that it was our good fortune that we got the darshan of such a sage. Deciding that his teachings would benefit all of us, they said to Muniraj, ‘O Brahmarishi! Listen to the reason for our sorrow, we have come before you to get relief from our suffering. Oh God! Please suggest some solution yourself. Maharishi Lomash asked, gentlemen, with what desire have you come here? What is your purpose with me? Please say clearly. I will clear all your doubts.

The people replied, O Munivar, we are residents of Mahishmati city. The name of our king is Mahijit. That king is the protector of Brahmins, a pious person, a charitable person, a brave person and a soft-spoken person. That king has nurtured us, but such a great king has not been blessed with a child till date. Oh God! Parents are only the givers of birth, but the king is the real nurturer and promoter. For the sake of that king, we have appeared in this dense forest.

O Maharishi! Please tell me some trick by which the king can get a child, because it is a matter of great misfortune for such a virtuous king to have no son. We have come to this dense forest after discussing among ourselves. It is due to his good fortune that we have seen you. Hey Munivar! By observing which fast, charity, worship etc. rituals will the king have a son? Please describe.

After listening to the people, Maharishi Lomash said, O devotees, listen carefully. I am describing Sankat Nashan Vrat. This fast provides children to the childless and wealth to the poor. Worship Lord Ganesha named Krishnapingal on Ashadh Krishna Chaturthi.

Following the aforesaid method, the king fasts and with devotion, serves food to the Brahmins and donates clothes to them. By the grace of Lord Ganesha, they will definitely get a son. The king was very happy after listening to the people and he observed a fast on Ganesh Chaturthi with devotion and donated food, clothes etc. to the Brahmins. Queen Sudakshina was blessed with a beautiful and graceful son by the grace of Lord Ganesha.

Shri Krishna ji said, O king, this fast has such a divine effect. The person who observes this fast with devotion, enjoys all kinds of worldly pleasures. Hey Maharaj! You too observe this fast properly. By the grace of Shri Ganesh ji, all your wishes will be fulfilled. All your enemies will be destroyed and you will attain a stable kingdom.

Shri Krishna ji says incessantly, O king, O supreme lord Yudhishthir! Those men who observe this fast with devotion, whether they are sages who meditate in solitude or scholars, they certainly get the birth of sons and grandchildren without any hindrance. The one who recites and listens to this sacred story of Lord Ganesha gets success in all his tasks and gets rid of all the obstacles.
