Attention Rising temperature spoils people’s sleep, people are sleeping 56 hours less in a year

Climate Change Impact On Sleep: Climate change now only Season It is not limited to this, but its effect is clearly visible on people’s sleep as well. According to a new analysis, due to rising temperatures, people around the world are sleeping an average of 56 hours less in a year. The maximum impact has been seen in those areas where the night temperature is continuously increasing. Experts say that lack of sleep can cause many serious health problems like heart disease, mental health, weak immunity and decline in working capacity.

1,338 major cities covered

This analysis conducted by Climate Central included 1,338 major cities of the world. In this, 107 cities of India were also studied. According to the report, India is among those countries where people’s sleep has been most affected due to climate change. Especially people living in the cities of South India are losing 78 to 91 hours of sleep every year, out of which 8 to 9 hours of sleep is being reduced directly due to climate change.

Which cities are most affected?

According to the report, Tamil Nadu is the most affected state in this matter. Here, an average additional reduction of 7.9 hours of sleep per person has been recorded every year due to climate change. At the same time, Chennai was the most affected among the big metros of the country, where people are sleeping about 93 hours less in a year. After this, it is estimated that sleep will be reduced by 84 hours in Mumbai and 80 hours in Kolkata.

Cities like Bengaluru and Dehradun, once known for cold nights, are now in the grip of rising temperatures. According to the report, in the 1970s, people of Bengaluru used to lose about 59 hours of sleep a year, but by 2025 this figure will increase to 67 hours. Of these, the additional 8 hours of sleep loss is directly linked to climate change, which is highest in the major metros of the country. At the same time, in Dehradun, there was an increase of about 10 percent in lack of sleep during the last five years.

People living in 22 cities of Maharashtra are losing an average of 76.3 hours of sleep every year, out of which 5.8 hours are being reduced due to climate change. At the same time, in 11 cities of Uttar Pradesh, the annual sleep of people is decreasing by about 69 hours and the decrease of 4.9 hours is directly related to the rising temperature.

The shortage is now at least double

The report shows that compared to the 1970s, sleep loss caused by rising temperatures has now at least doubled. Globally, its maximum impact was seen in the cities of the Middle East, while many parts of South India and South-East Asia are also included in this list. Researchers believe that if the night temperature continues to rise like this, then sleep problems and the health challenges associated with them may become more serious in the coming years.
