National School Safety Toolkit launched in Delhi, focus will be on cyber security and disaster preparedness.

Delhi School: A big step has been taken towards making schools in Delhi more safe and future ready. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu launched the National Model School Safety Toolkit on Thursday. He said that in today’s era, the scope of school security has become much wider than before. Now it is not limited to just school buildings, fire safety or emergency exits, but also includes cyber security, mental health safety of students, transportation and preparedness to deal with disaster-like situations.

Addressing the National Submit on Safe Schools Leadership 2026 organized at PHD House, New Delhi, Log said that this tool kit is a big initiative towards strengthening the culture of safety and disaster management in schools. He said that its objective is not only to make schools safe but also to prepare them to deal with every kind of problem.

Changing definition of school safety

LG Sandhu has said that with time there has been a big change in the concept of school safety. While earlier the focus was mainly on the safety of buildings, fire fighting arrangements and emergency response, now it has become necessary to take the threats related to the digital world seriously. He said that cyber security, mental health of students, safe transportation and the ability to respond effectively to any unexpected situation are also important parts of modern school security.

Why is Delhi more responsible?

Regarding this toolkit in the program, LG said that being the national capital, Delhi has more responsibility than other states. In cities with dense populations and diverse social environments, schools must develop a safe, inclusive and robust environment that can serve as an example for other parts of the country. He said that it is not only the administration’s responsibility but also the responsibility of all educational institutions to create a safe learning environment for children. Taranjit Sandhu has appealed to the school heads and management not to limit themselves to following the rules regarding security. He said that it should be made a part of institutional leadership. He has stressed on ensuring regular safety audits in all schools, clear emergency preparedness plans, periodic mock drills, trained staff and better coordination with government agencies and the local community.

Toolkit launched during Child Safety Month

According to a note issued from the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the LG has emphasized that Child Safety Month is being celebrated in Delhi in the month of July. Therefore, at such a time, the launch of the National Model School Safety Tool Kit is an important initiative towards strengthening the safety of children. He said that this toolkit will help in developing a culture of prevention, preparedness and risk management in schools, so that the safety of students and staff can be ensured in case of any emergency.
