Sophie Brocas also said that no one has been reported injured yet. However, some places and roads in open forest areas have been closed as a precaution.

Gironde fire service chief Marc Vermeulen said that work to extinguish the fire continued throughout the night. He warned that the temperature is increasing and the winds are also becoming stronger. According to him, the situation can become more challenging in the evening, because the direction of the winds can change rapidly. He said that at present such a fire is being fought whose spread is difficult to predict, hence no carelessness can be taken. Earlier this week, two local firefighters also died while extinguishing another fire near Bordeaux airport.

Yasmina de Freitas, a 19-year-old resident of the seaside town of Le Porge, said that on Wednesday afternoon she smelled smoke and a strong smell of burning. He said that by afternoon ash and bark of half-burnt trees had started falling. The sky had become very dark and the smoke was becoming increasingly dense. Yasmina told that at around 8 pm local time, the police took her family to a safe place. He was accommodated in a gym in a nearby city. Due to their hasty departure, they could not take along their two cats and four chickens as they were not seen at that time.
Administration warned people
People in the Var region in the south-east of France who were evacuated earlier were allowed to return to their homes on Thursday morning to assess the damage. However, the administration has warned people that the fire may flare up again due to strong winds in the afternoon, hence they have been advised to minimize movement in the area. Many areas of France have been hit by wildfires during an unusually prolonged heat wave across Europe this summer. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez on Tuesday paid tribute to two firefighters who lost their lives while extinguishing a fire near Bordeaux airport.
