Dengue, Malaria And Chikungunya In Delhi: In the country’s capital Delhi, the number of patients suffering from viral and bacterial infections has increased rapidly due to monsoon rains in July and August. The number of patients has shocked the doctors of Delhi. Although, the Delhi government health department has not issued any official statement on this matter, but if the doctors of major private hospitals of Delhi are to be believed, the situation in Delhi is worrying in terms of patients suffering from seasonal diseases.
The increase in the number of people suffering from serious diseases like dengue, COVID-19, typhoid, leptospirosis, malaria, cough, cold, fever, influenza, viral hepatitis and chikungunya due to monsoon rains in Delhi has raised concerns among health experts. The number of patients suffering from mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria has increased by 30 to 45 percent due to rain.
Monsoon rains are responsible for the infection
Health experts in Delhi say that the onset of the rainy season has led to a major surge in cases. It rained for 26 days in August, which is much higher than the humidity levels recorded in the last 14 years. The humidity generated by the rain has helped the disease spread easily.
TOI quoted Dr. Romil Tikku as saying that about 70 percent of patients coming with fever are either coming with dengue or flu. The situation is getting worse in terms of the number of patients. Now cases of COVID-19 are coming from Delhi’s neighboring states. People should take typhoid and dengue cases seriously.
It is important to understand the symptoms of leptospirosis
According to Dr Neeraj Nichal, Professor, Department of Medicine, AIIMS, cases of leptospirosis have increased especially in flood affected areas, where the rate of infection is always high. Leptospirosis symptoms include fever, diarrhea, jaundice and kidney and liver infections. If left untreated, leptospirosis can lead to major problems like meningitis and organ failure or even death.
Be aware and take these precautions
Medical experts of Delhi say that to avoid seasonal diseases, clean hands properly with water or soap. Maintain distance from people with viral and bacterial infection symptoms. Wear a mask if you have trouble breathing. Keep the door of the house closed in the morning and evening to avoid mosquitoes and use a net while sleeping. Keep the bathroom, cooler, house and surrounding areas clean. Do not allow water to accumulate inside or outside the house.
