Heeramandi- The Diamond Bazaar: Hiramandi is located in Lahore, Pakistan. This is the area where the business of prostitution has been going on for decades. The business of prostitution, which has been going on since the reign of the Mughals, is very special in itself. During the Mughal rule, there was a continuous stream of Nawabs to see the Mujra of the courtesans in Hiramandi. Nawabs used to come not only from Lahore but also from Lucknow and Hyderabad, thousands of miles away, to see the art of the courtesans of that era. Time kept passing and soon the business of prostitution also started reaching its peak here.
It was the year 1843, when Maharaja Ranjit Singh used to rule Lahore. His son’s name was Hira Singh Dobra. He was made the Prime Minister of Lahore. This area was named Hiramandi after him.
Film producer Khwaja Mazhar reached Hiramandi
In the year 1970, film producer Khawaja Mazhar was looking for a female actress for the star cast of his film Kaso. In this search, Mazhar reached Hiramandi. There he saw Nargis. He talked to Nargis about casting her in his film. Nargis agreed to do the film. However, this was not Nargis’s first film. Nargis had done many films before this. In the year 1964, Nargis entered the world of Pakistani cinema with her first film Ishrat.
When Mazhar became crazy about Nargis, but…
Mazhar fell in love with Nargis during the shooting of the film Kaso. Meanwhile, Mazhar and Nargis (Niggo) got married. During that time, there was a rule in Lahore that whenever a girl gets married from Hiramandi, the boy had to pay her a fair price. Despite all the rules and conditions, Khwaja Mazhar married Niggo. Nargis’s mother did not like her working in films. Somehow, Nargis’s mother called Nargis back to her brothel, making an excuse of her illness.
After staying with his mother for a long time, Niggo also started losing interest in Majhar. Despite Majhar calling her many times, Niggo did not return. Meanwhile, one day Majhar reached Nargis’s brothel. Majhar asked Niggo to come back with him, but Niggo did not listen to him. After that, something happened which no one had any idea about. Majhar took out a pistol from his pocket and shot Niggo. Nargis died on the spot. After this, Majhar was sentenced to life imprisonment.
