Flight Robber Arrested: Delhi Police on Monday arrested a man who is accused of stealing passengers’ luggage, jewelry and other valuables from their handbags during air travel. According to information received from the police, 40-year-old accused Rajesh Kapoor used to board flights to steal and since last year till now he has traveled on 200 flights in 110 days.
Giving information at Delhi’s IGI Airport, Deputy Commissioner of Police Usha Rangnani said that Rajesh Kapoor has been arrested from Paharganj area of Delhi. Here he had hidden all the stolen jewellery. He was planning to sell them to a person named Sharad Jain, 46 years old. He has also been arrested from Karol Bagh.
Rangnani said two separate cases of theft were reported in different flights in the last three months, following which a dedicated team was formed from IGI airport to nab the culprits.
He used to steal jewelry worth lakhs in flight
The Police Commissioner says that in the last three months, cases of theft were reported in two different flights. The first case came on April 11, in which jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh was stolen and the second case came on February 2, in which jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh was stolen. After this, a team was formed by the IGI Police.
The team investigated the cases and shortlisted a suspect who was travelling in both the flights in which the thefts took place. The suspect’s number was obtained from the airline he was travelling in but a fake number was given by him at the time of booking.

After investigation by the police, Rajesh Kapoor’s number was found and he was caught. When the police questioned him, the accused confessed to being involved in five cases like Hyderabad and told that he spent this money on gambling.

According to the police, accused Rajesh has been found guilty in 11 cases, out of which five cases were related to airports. The accused targets vulnerable passengers, especially elderly women travelling internationally. At times, he would even exchange his seat to steal luggage. To hide his identity, he used to book tickets in the name of his dead brother.
