A court held in Chain Ka Purva, a small village in Kanpur rural area, for the last two years has now become the center of police investigation and criminal charges. Hariom Yadav alias ‘Botal Baba’, who claims to be rich in spiritual powers, and one of his associates have been arrested by the police on the basis of a complaint by a woman. The woman has made serious allegations against him like attempted sexual harassment, assault and extortion.
Cancer cure claims go viral
About two years ago, Hariom Yadav’s name came into the limelight when the alleged ‘nectar water’ available in his court for Rs 20 each and claims of cure of many serious diseases including cancer and diabetes with cloves, went viral on social media. His supporters said that Baba has the special blessings of Mother Kali and with the help of this power he cures even incurable diseases.
Darbar was held two days a week in this Shaktipeeth of Bhognipur tehsil area, where a large number of people used to come not only from Uttar Pradesh but also from other states. The devotees coming to the court were given a bottle of water, cloves and oil and claimed to be the solution to their problems. Many people continued to consider it a miracle, while people with scientific viewpoint continued to question these claims.
Now serious criminal allegations have been made against the same court. According to the police, a woman from Auraiya district has lodged a complaint that during a religious ritual the Baba told her that she was “possessed by evil powers” and a special puja was required to get rid of them. It is alleged that 40 thousand rupees were taken from him on this pretext.

Kanpur Dehat Police has registered an FIR against 10 people including Hariom Yadav in this case. Superintendent of Police Shraddha Narendra Pandey said, “A case has been registered based on the complaint of the victim. Medical examination and other evidence are being collected so that a strong chargesheet can be presented in the court.”

The woman alleges that on June 15, when she was called to the ashram for a special puja, she was taken to a room, where an attempt was made to rape her. When he protested, he was beaten up and an attempt was made to kill him. Somehow he got out of there and contacted the police.
