In which state, how many children are there per teacher? What is the ratio in different states of the country?

Teacher Pupil Ratio In Indian States: There is no doubt that when a teacher has to teach fewer children, he is able to pay better attention to them. If a single teacher is responsible for a large number of children, then this work cannot be completed as well. Individual demands cannot be met at all. However, if we talk about government schools in different states of the country, then this ratio is fine.

Before moving ahead, let us know that the teacher student ratio varies according to the class. For example, the ratio of upper primary, primary, secondary and higher secondary teachers is different according to the children. Let us know what is the situation of which state.

First the rough information

If we do not talk about different states and ask a general question, then in India the ratio is one teacher for 26 children at the primary level, one teacher for 19 children at the upper primary level, one teacher for 18 students at the secondary level and one teacher for 27 students at the higher secondary level.

The data we are talking about was provided by PIB and it is of the year 2021-22. From this, we got to know the average condition of the states. Now let’s know the state wise figures.

What is the situation of different states

If we talk according to class, then at the primary level the teacher and student ratio was as follows.

Bihar – 53 students per teacher

Jharkhand – 40 students per teacher

UP – 34 students per teacher

MP – 32 students per teacher

Rajasthan – 29 students per teacher

Maharashtra – 26 students per teacher

Karnataka – 24 students per teacher

Tamil Nadu – 23 students per teacher

Kerala – 20 Students per Teacher

Thus, at the primary level, the biggest burden is being borne by teachers from Bihar, followed by UP and MP. On the other hand, teachers from the southern states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are comparatively at ease.

The situation is more or less the same at the upper primary level, but better than the primary level.

Bihar – 43 students per teacher

UP – 26 students per teacher

MP – 24 students per teacher

Rajasthan – 23 students per teacher

Maharashtra – 20 students per teacher

Karnataka – 19 students per teacher

Tamil Nadu – 18 students per teacher

Kerala – 16 students per teacher.

Thus, the condition of the states at both primary and upper primary level is same as before, only the pressure of total students is less as compared to the smaller classes.

The situation is same at the secondary level too. Now let us see the condition at higher secondary level.

Bihar – 45 students per teacher

UP – 27 students per teacher

MP – 25 students per teacher

Rajasthan – 24 students per teacher

Maharashtra – 22 students per teacher

Karnataka – 21 students per teacher

Tamil Nadu – 20 students per teacher

Kerala – 18 Students per Teacher

What is the situation of other states

  • In Punjab this ratio is 24 students per teacher.
  • 14 students per teacher in Himachal Pradesh
  • There are 38 students per teacher in Assam.
  • There are 22 students per teacher in Goa.
  • 30 students per teacher in Delhi
  • 20 students per teacher in Uttarakhand
  • There are 38 students per teacher in Jharkhand.

Please note that the information given here is an average and some of it is based on the data of the UDISEPlus report of the year 2021-22. Changes are possible in this. You can check the website of the Ministry of Education for detailed information and latest updates.
