This time NEET cutoff reached record level, jump of 69 marks in general and 64 marks in reserved category.

NEET UG Result 2026: After the release of the result of NEET UG exam 2026 by NTA, the process of admission in MBBS college will start soon. This time the NEET result also created many new records. However, the most interesting picture is that on one hand the exam qualifying cut off has reached an all-time high, while on the other hand, about 1.15 lakh less candidates were able to qualify in the exam as compared to last year.

Regarding this, NTA says that due to re-exam, candidates got extra time for preparation and the performance of the students appearing in the examination was better, due to which a record increase in the cut off has been recorded.

Increase of 69 marks in general and 64 marks in reserved category.

This year the qualifying cut off for General and EWS categories increased from 144 marks to 213 marks. That means there has been a jump of 69 points in just one year. At the same time, the cut off for OBC, SC and ST categories has increased from 113 to 177 marks, which is 64 marks more than last year. This is considered to be the biggest qualifying cut off in the history of NEET UG.

How has the qualifying cut off changed in 3 years?

If we look at the data of the last three years, there has been a huge fluctuation in the cut off. The minimum qualifying score for General and EWS category in 2024 was 162 marks. It dropped to 144 in 2025, but went straight up to 213 in 2026. In this way, the minimum score in OBC, SC and ST categories will become 127 in 2024, 113 in 2025 and 177 in this year i.e. 2026.

Less students had come to take the exam, hence there was a big difference

This time the number of registrations in NEET exam was almost equal to last year. This time around 22.80 lakh students applied, whereas in 2025 this figure was 22.76 lakh, but the number of candidates appearing in the examination decreased this time. While last year 22.09 lakh students appeared in the examination, this time only 19.99 lakh candidates appeared. Due to this, the attendance percentage dropped from 97.1 to 87.7 percent. Apart from this, a total of 11.21 lakh candidates qualified the exam this year, whereas last year this number was 12.37 lakh. That means this time around 1.15 lakh less students were successful. However, according to the students who took the exam, the success rate remained around 56 percent. This indicates that the number of people qualifying decreased because this time a large number of registered candidates did not appear in the examination.

Which category performed the best?

This time the performance of EWS category has been the strongest. 61.8 percent candidates of this category were successful in qualifying, followed by the success percentage of OBC category at 60.7. 52.4 percent candidates in AC category, 51.2 percent in General category and 49 percent in ST category passed the examination. For the first time, more than 60 percent of the candidates who appeared for the exam in both EWS and OBC categories have been successful. Talking about the figures, according to NTA, maximum 5.2 lakh OBC candidates passed the examination, followed by 2.91 lakh candidates of General category, 1.59 lakh of AC, 95,026 of EWS and 63,716 candidates of ST category have qualified. Whereas in PW BD category, 3,666 out of 8,912 were successful.
