UGC chairman M Jagadeesh says that in some central universities, seats remain vacant even after three or four rounds of counselling. This is not only a waste of resources but also deprives many students of quality higher education.

Universities are issuing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to fill their vacant seats. Students who appeared in the CUET exam, who had not applied to universities earlier, will also be considered.

Students who appeared in the CUET exam can now be considered for admission regardless of their subject paper.

The University may relax domain subject-specific criteria for admission to a particular course.

If seats remain vacant even after clearing the list of applicants who appeared in CUET, the university may consider conducting an entrance examination at its own level or the concerned department may conduct a screening test.
