NITI Aayog CEO Anurag Jain: The Central Government has appointed Anurag Jain, a senior IAS officer of 1989 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the new Chief Executive Officer or CEO of NITI Aayog. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment. He will hold the responsibility of this post till further orders. Anurag Jain was earlier working as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh.

Who is Anurag Jain?

Anurag Jain is a 1989 batch Administrative Services officer and comes from Madhya Pradesh cadre. In an administrative career spanning more than three decades, he has worked on many important positions in the Central and State Government. In 2024, he was appointed the 35th Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and later his tenure was extended till 31 August 2026. Now, considering his experience in areas like infrastructure, industrial development, economic policy and administrative reforms, he has been made the CEO of NITI Aayog.

Where did the new CEO of NITI Aayog study?

Anurag Jain completed his studies in Electrical Engineering (Hons) from IIT Kharagpur in 1986. After this, he obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Maxwell School, Syracuse University, America. He also handled many important responsibilities during his administrative career. He has worked on positions like Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and State Highways, Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority. Apart from this, he also played an important role in financial reforms related to Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and ambitious projects like PM Gati Shakti. He has also received the Prime Minister’s Excellent Public Administration Award in 2023 for the effective implementation of PM Gati Shakti.

What is the responsibility of the CEO of NITI Aayog?

NITI Aayog is the main NITI Aayog (think tank) of the Central Government, which was established on 1 January 2015 in place of the Planning Commission. Its objective is to increase coordination between the Center and the states, give suggestions on development policies and carry forward the national development plan in collaboration with various ministries. As CEO, Anurag Jain will coordinate with ministries, state governments and other stakeholders and monitor the implementation of the government’s flagship development plan.

How much salary will Anurag Jain get?

The CEO of NITI Aayog usually gets a monthly salary of Rs 2,25,000. Apart from this, the CEO of NITI Aayog also gets government allowances like DA and HRA along with the basic salary.
