Earlier, Uvena Fernandes became the first Indian female assistant referee to play the role of an official in the World Cup. She played this role in the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup 2016. Now, Riohlang Dhar will play this role. Riohlang Dhar is a resident of Meghalaya.
The FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup 2024 is starting from October 10. At the same time, the final of this tournament will be played on November 3. For this, FIFA released a list of 38 match officials, which includes the name of India’s Riohlang Dhar. Let us tell you that Riohlang Dhar works in the Meghalaya Police Department. On being selected as an assistant referee for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, she said that my appointment for the World Cup is a matter of great honor. I will have to work hard to live up to FIFA’s expectations.
Riohlang Dhar further says that I will also keep in mind that I will be there as a representative of India, I will make every effort to keep the flag of India high. She said that after I stopped playing football, I became a part of the referee syllabus and I found it interesting because it kept me connected to the game I love very much. She also said that without the help of my state association, AIFF and my employers, I would not have been able to reach the World Cup. AIFF is doing tremendous work in the development of women referees. We all have benefited from it.
