The first death from scrub typhus has been reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla city. Officials gave this information on Friday. They said that a 91-year-old man from Panthaghati area died during treatment of scrub typhus at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).
Symptoms of Scrub Typhus
Scrub typhus is an infectious disease caused by a mite bacterium called Orientia tsutsugamushi. It spreads to people through the bite of larval mites. Its initial symptoms appear on the body like rashes, fever, headache, body ache and other problems.
Hospital officials said that the person died on Wednesday during treatment after being found infected with scrub typhus on August 2. So far 44 cases of scrub typhus have been reported in Shimla’s IGMC. After a case of scrub typhus was reported in Hamirpur, the district health officials have advised people to keep their bodies covered while working in the fields and go to the nearest medical facility in case of fever.
