Now small clinics and OPD will also be digital, government brought cloud-based hospital management system

Cloud-Based Hospital Management System: Lakhs of small clinics and doctors in the country are still dependent on registers and paper records. To change this, the government has come up with a cloud based system through which even these small clinics can easily go digital. Today a platform related to this system was launched named eSushrut@Clinic.

This is a cloud running Hospital Management Information System i.e. HMIS. It has been specially designed keeping in mind the needs of small OPD clinics. The government plans to open it for all including government primary health centres, health and wellness centres, sub-centres and private clinics.

Where was the problem coming from?

Till now, the big HMIS software available in the market has proved to be expensive and quite complex for small clinics. This is the reason why small clinics were left behind in the race of digital health and most were still working on hand-written records. For a long time, there was a demand for a government and cheap HMIS which would be for small places. Many states and union territories had also shown interest in such lightweight HMIS for their government health facilities.

What can this system do?

With this platform, the daily work of the clinic will start happening automatically. It has facilities like patient registration, billing and MIS reporting. There is also the facility of speech-to-text, that is, doctors will be able to enter information by speaking also. Clinical Decision Support System is also provided in it which will help the doctor in taking decisions related to treatment and reduce the scope of error.

The special thing is that it will not require much technical knowledge to run it and it can be accessed from any device. No complicated setup will be required in this. This system is also connected to the new features of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission i.e. ABDM which includes facilities like Find ABHA Scan & Share and CDSS.

Who can use it?

To join this platform, it is necessary to be a part of Health Professional Registry i.e. HPR and Health Facility Registry i.e. HFR. Doctors who are not registered in HPR will not be able to use it. This will ensure that only genuine and certified doctors can operate this system.

How much will it cost?

This software will be available at the rate of Rs 499 per month for up to five users. Under the agreement with NHA, there will be a discount of Rs 200 on this, after which actually only Rs 299 will have to be paid every month. This software will be absolutely free for the first three months. If a clinic wants to add more than five users, then Rs 50 will have to be paid for each additional user.

Agreement between NHA and C-DAC

To promote digital health and ABDM, National Health Authority i.e. NHA has entered into an agreement with C-DAC. According to this, C-DAC will handle the maintenance and updating of the software while NHA will provide facilities and financial assistance. NHA will bear the expenses of sending SMS related to ABDM to the patients and cloud hosting. To provide initial help to the customers, NHA will also provide its call center service while C-DAC will conduct training and quality audit of the call center employees.

How many clinics have been connected so far?

According to government data, till now more than 800 health facilities have been connected to eSushrut@Clinic and more than 680 health records have been created on them. Apart from this, the complete eSushrut software of C-DAC is already running in more than 15 AIIMS and many state government hospitals of the country.
