High AQI Risk : After Diwali, the air in Delhi has reached very dangerous levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the capital has reached close to 400 and everyone’s concern has increased, but do you know that Pakistan has no competition in terms of pollution.

Lahore’s AQI was recorded at 1900 on Saturday, which is 5 times more than Delhi. This level is several times higher than the level set by the World Health Organization (WHO). On Sunday, Lahore topped the real-time list of the world’s most polluted cities. The air there has become so poisonous that it has created a panic. This is a serious level of pollution. Why is high level of AQI dangerous?

The level of pollution is measured by Air Quality Index i.e. AQI. Through this, carbon dioxide (CO), ozone, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter i.e. PM 2.5 and PM 10 pollutants present in the air are checked. The reading on this ranges from zero to 500. The more pollutants there are in the air, the higher the AQI level will be. The higher the AQI, the more poisonous the air. Although AQI between 200-300 is considered bad for health, but in Lahore it has gone well above the danger mark.

0-50 (Better air to breathe)

51-100 (sensitive people may have trouble breathing)

101-200 (dangerous for asthma and heart patients)

201-300 (this is a bad level, everyone may have trouble breathing)

301-400 (This is a very dangerous level, there is a risk of lung and respiratory diseases)

401-500 (This is a very serious level, in this not only sick people face a lot of problems, healthy people also start falling ill)
