The central government gave a big blow to the pharmaceutical companies

The Union Health Ministry has issued a notification on August 12, which has banned more than 100 FDC medicines i.e. fixed dose combination medicines used for fever, cold, allergy, itching and pain. The Center said in this notification that these fixed dose combination medicines are dangerous for humans. At the same time, safe alternatives of these medicines are also available.

These medicines were banned

In the gazette notification issued by the Union Health Ministry on August 12 regarding FDC medicines, the government has banned the medicines manufactured by top pharma companies which provide instant relief from pain. The medicines which have been banned are the famous medicines Aceclofenac 50 mg + Paracetamol 125 mg Tablet.

Mefenamic acid + paracetamol injection, cetirizine HCL + paracetamol + phenylephrine HCL, levocetirizine + phenylephrine HCL + paracetamol + chlorpheniramine maleate + phenyl propanolamine and camylofin dihydrochloride 25 mg + paracetamol 300 mg. The central government issued a notification saying that the use of fixed dose combination medicine is very dangerous for humans. It causes many types of damage to the body. FDC was considered irrational.

DTAB did the investigation

The panel Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) also recommended investigation of these FDCs. FDCs are very dangerous for humans. Therefore, it is very important to impose a ban on their sale or distribution.

Last year, in June 2023, 14 FDC drugs were banned. According to reports from sources, FDCs were also among those 344 drug combinations. In 2016, the distribution and sale of 344 drugs was banned. According to a panel formed by the Supreme Court, these were being sold to patients without the data of scientists.
