Amit Shah reached the relief camps of Kuki-Meitei community in Manipur, know the condition

Amit Shah In Manipur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a state visit to Manipur affected by caste violence as part of efforts to restore peace. On Wednesday (May 31), Shah visited the relief camps of Kuki and Meitei communities and took stock and assured help to the people. Shah is on a four-day visit to Manipur from Monday (May 29). He will remain there till June 1.

In addition, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh issued a warning that legal action would be taken against those found to be in possession of arms and ammunition in an unauthorized and illegal manner.

CM Biren said, “I appeal to all concerned that the arms and ammunition looted from the Armed Police Battalions, Police Stations etc. in the Valley and Hill Districts should be returned to the nearest Police Station or Manipur Rifles/Indian Reserve Battalion, at the earliest. Hand over etc.” The CM said, “If any person is found in possession of unauthorized arms and ammunition during the search operation by the security personnel or otherwise, legal action will be taken against him as per the Arms Act 1959 and rules.” will be processed.”

What did Home Minister Shah say?

Home Minister Shah said that the government is determined to restore peace in Manipur at the earliest and ensure the return of the displaced to their homes. In a tweet, Shah said, “Visited a relief camp in Imphal where people of Meitei community are living. Our resolve is focused on bringing Manipur back on the path of peace and harmony once again and returning people to their homes at the earliest.

‘People desirous of restoring harmony’

On Wednesday, Shah also held a meeting with civil society groups in Manipur’s Kangpokpi. He said that people are willing to actively engage with the government’s efforts to restore harmony among communities. During the tour of the relief camps, Home Minister Shah took stock of the arrangements there. He came to know about the basic facilities like accommodation and food and water of the people. He also interacted with children and women in relief camps.

Officials said that the death toll in the clashes has risen to 80. After the ‘Tribal Unity March’ in Manipur, caste violence erupted for the first time in Manipur. On May 3, the Meitei community protested for the demand of Scheduled Caste (ST) status, after which the ‘Tribal Unity March’ was organized. Tension over the eviction of Kuki villagers from reserved forest land had resulted in violence in the past, leading to several smaller agitations.
