Adani Redevelopment Project: A petition filed against awarding the Dharavi slum redevelopment project to Adani Properties Private Limited has been rejected on Friday. The division bench of Bombay High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Amit Borkar said that the petition has no basis and hence it is dismissed. The petition was filed by United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Seclink Technologies Corporation, challenging the state government’s decision to award the project to Adani Properties Private Limited.
Adani Group had won the Dharavi Redevelopment Project
Adani Group had made the highest bid for the 259 hectare Dharavi redevelopment project. It had achieved this with an offer of Rs 5069 crore in the 2022 tender process. At the same time, UAE’s Seclink Technologies Corporation had challenged the cancellation of the 2018 tender and then awarding the tender to Adani in 2022.
What did the Bombay High Court say in the order?
The court said, ‘The grounds raised in the petition have no merit. It has failed to challenge the government’s move to cancel the tender and float a new tender. Under the three billion dollar Dharavi project, 620 acres of land is to be converted into an urban center. This land is approximately three-fourth the size of New York’s Central Park.
Nearly seven lakh people living in dilapidated slums with open sewers and shared toilets in the densely populated slums near Mumbai’s international airport are to be given free flats of up to 350 square feet.
