Chirag Paswan On Lateral Entry Row: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president and Union minister Chirag Paswan on Monday (August 19) termed the lateral entry in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as completely wrong and said that he plans to raise the issue with the government.
The Union Public Service Commission had issued an advertisement on August 17, seeking applications from “talented and motivated Indian nationals for lateral recruitment” to the posts of joint secretary, director and deputy secretary in 24 ministries of the central government. Paswan is the first NDA ally to criticise lateral entry to 45 posts in the bureaucracy.
What did Chirag Paswan say?
Clarifying his party’s stand on the issue, he said that LJP (RV) is not in favour of such appointments at all. He said, “Wherever there are government appointments, the provisions of reservation should be followed.” He further said that the way this matter has come to light is a matter of concern for him, because his party is part of the government and he has a platform to bring these issues to the fore.
Hajipur MP Chirag Paswan said, “My party’s stand on such appointments is very clear. Wherever there are government appointments, reservation provisions should be followed. Speaking on behalf of my party, we are not in favour of this at all. This is completely wrong and I will raise this matter before the government.”
Opposition is also attacking on lateral entry
Earlier today, the Congress continued its attack on the lateral entry issue, with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi calling it an attack on Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis. He said, “The BJP’s distorted version of Ram Rajya seeks to destroy the Constitution and snatch away reservation from the Bahujans.”
At the same time, government sources told ANI that the concept of lateral entry was first introduced during the Congress-led UPA government and was strongly supported by the second Administrative Reforms Commission set up by it in 2005. He said that the government has historically appointed external talent at its higher levels, usually in advisory roles, but sometimes also in key administrative positions.
