A Maharashtra Highway Police official said that one of the reasons for accidents happening on this six-lane wide expressway is road hypnosis. Citing statistics, the official said that since December last year, a total of 39 fatal accidents have taken place on the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway. Apart from this, there have been 616 minor accidents on this expressway, in which 656 people suffered serious or minor injuries.

The official said that most of the accidents happened due to reasons like over speeding, the driver dozing off while driving and tire burst. He said that the Highway Police is trying to deal with the problem of road hypnosis. According to the official, in 2022, a total of 15,224 people died in road accidents in Maharashtra. Police said that a private bus caught fire after hitting the divider on the expressway in Buldhana district in the early hours of Saturday, due to which 25 passengers traveling in it were charred to death.
