Election campaign noise will stop in Karnataka on Monday, voting will be held on May 10

Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: The vigorous campaigning for the assembly elections to be held in Karnataka on May 10 will end on Monday (May 8) evening. The three major political parties of the state – BJP (BJP), Congress (Congress) and JDS (JDS) have given their full strength to woo the voters. Prominent leaders of these parties have been on a stormy tour of different parts of the state for the past several days.

The BJP is trying to break the 38-year-old tradition of gradual change of power and to save its stronghold in South India. PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Party President JP Nadda, CM Bommai of Karnataka, Chief Ministers of many states and big veteran leaders have held rallies for BJP. On the other hand, the Congress, which is trying to oust the BJP from power, is also trying hard to consolidate its position as the main opposition party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Which party raised which issues?

On the other hand, the Janata Dal (Secular) under the leadership of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda put all its might into the election campaign. JDS does not want to emerge as a kingmaker but as a winner in the elections. BJP’s election campaign Prime Minister Narendra ModiThe government of the double engine, has been focused on national issues and programs or achievements of the central and state governments.

Congress is raising local issues and initially the reins of its election campaign was in the hands of local leaders. However, later its top leaders like Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party president Rahul Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joined the election campaign. JDS is also giving priority to local issues in the election campaign. Along with its leader HD Kumaraswamy, Deve Gowda is also campaigning.

BJP has set a target of winning 150 seats.

The BJP, despite emerging as the single largest party in the 2008 and 2018 assembly elections, found it difficult to form a government on its own in the state. However, this time the party is expecting a clear mandate. The party has set a target of winning at least 150 out of 224 seats. Taking away power from the BJP will prove to be a morale booster for the Congress and will play an important role in reviving its electoral prospects.

Congress is giving a tough fight

By winning this election, the Congress wants to infuse energy among the party workers to counter the BJP’s election machinery in the assembly elections to be held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan at the end of the year. The Congress campaign, which initially centered around state leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, was spearheaded by Kharge and preparations were strengthened with the involvement of top party leaders Rahul and Priyanka.

Mallikarjun Kharge’s big test

On reaching the last stage of the election campaign, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi addressed a public meeting of the party in Hubballi on Saturday. This election is also a battle of prestige for the Congress President, as Mallikarjun Kharge hails from Kalaburagi district of the state. The Congress party has also set a target of winning 150 seats.
