After the release of OTT platform Netflix’s web-series IC184 The Kandahar Hijack, new revelations are being made about this incident of 1999. Now the then chief of intelligence agency R&AW, Amarjit Singh Dulat has made a new revelation about Lal Krishna Advani and Ajit Doval. Lal Krishna Advani was the Home Minister at that time and he was very sorry for the release of the three terrorists. He said that Ajit Doval would also have been saddened by this because he thinks like Lal Krishna Advani. Amarjit Singh also told that Ajit Doval had called from Kandahar and told that he was not safe there.
Amarjit Singh further said that 6 days after starting talks with the hijackers, Ajit Doval called him and told him that he was not safe there and neither were the hijackers themselves and everything was slipping out of their hands. AS Dulat said that the main thing for the officers at that time was to reduce the demands of the hijackers. The most important demand of the hijackers was the release of Masood Azhar and we knew this from the first day.
Amarjit Singh Dulat said that Ajit Doval must have regretted releasing Masood Azhar and other terrorists because he is a person who follows the footsteps of Lal Krishna Advani. He used to think like Advani, so Ajit Doval must have felt the same as Lal Krishna Advani felt.
AS Dulat was asked whether Advani was against accepting the demands of the hijackers and whether he did not want to release Masood Azhar and three dreaded terrorists. On this AS Dulat said, ‘Yes, but you were badly trapped at that time. You were given a job which you had to do.’ He said that Ajit Doval is a good professional and it must have come to his mind that what is happening and why is it happening.
Amarjit Singh Dulat further said that four of the best officers were sent to Afghanistan to negotiate with the hijackers, including Ajit Doval, Nehchal Sandhu of IB, CD Sahay of RAW and Anand Arni. He said that he could imagine how difficult that time must have been for the officers because India had no relations with the Taliban and relations with Pakistan were also very bad. At that time, Afghanistan was ruled by the Taliban.
