GST Council: GST Council is going to take a big decision, will ordering food online be cheaper?

GST Council Meeting: The important meeting of GST Council is going to be held on 21st December in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. In the 55th GST Council meeting, decisions will be taken on some important issues and in this, decisions can be taken to increase or decrease GST rates on many goods and services.

Relief on food delivery charges!

Customers ordering food through food delivery apps may get some relief from the GST Council. GST (Goods and Services Tax) on food delivery charges can be reduced by the GST Council.

GST will reduce from 18 percent to 5 percent – Sutra

According to sources, it has been learned that if the recommendations given by the Fitment Committee in the GST Council meeting are accepted, then there can be a big reduction in the charges on your food delivery. According to sources, currently customers have to pay 18 percent GST on food delivery through e-commerce platforms, which can be reduced to 5 percent.

There will be 5% GST without input tax credit.

Sources also said that this proposal will come into effect from January 1, 2022 and this rule will be applicable especially for the business of e-commerce companies doing food delivery. However, one thing to keep in mind is that when such companies file their GST returns, they will not get the benefit of Input Tax Credit (ITC). For a long time, e-commerce companies that are in the food delivery sector have been demanding that their services be treated or viewed like restaurant services. Regarding this, it has been learned from the sources that the Fitment Committee of the GST Council has looked at and reviewed the proposal of reduction in this charge in detail.

What do experts say on the new GST charge?

Experts having knowledge of this matter say that even though the rate of 5 percent GST on delivery charge without input tax credit may be a news of relief for the common customers, it may not be a matter of special relief for the companies having e-commerce platforms. Is going to happen. It should be seen that claiming input tax credit with 18% GST will be cheaper than filing 5% GST without ITC. In some cases, this 5% GST (without input tax credit) is going to prove to be more expensive for companies overall than 18% GST (with input tax credit).
