After this accident, the Ministry of Railways informed that it will give a compensation of 10 lakhs to the relatives of the deceased and a compensation of 2 lakhs will also be given to the dead from the PMNRF side. At the same time, the seriously injured will be given a compensation of Rs 2-2 lakh from the Railways, while the minorly injured will be provided an assistance of Rs 50,000. On the other hand, an aid amount of Rs 50 thousand will be given to all the injured by PMNRF.
What will happen to 35 paise travel insurance?
Whenever you book a railway ticket online, you also get the option of taking a travel insurance along with the ticket, which costs only 35 paise. Now the question arises that what will be the benefit of this travel insurance to the people who lost their lives in the Odisha Balasore railway accident and the injured.
Let me tell you, if you take this travel insurance while booking tickets, then after losing your life in an accident, your family members get a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the insurance company. In fact, the IRCTC website states that this travel insurance has been kept under section 123, 124 and 124A for train accident and its eligibility has been determined as per the Railway Act 1989.
When, who gets how much compensation?
The relatives of those who have taken travel insurance while booking railway tickets get a compensation of Rs 10 lakh after the death of the passenger. At the same time, the passenger who is completely disabled in the accident also gets a compensation of Rs 10 lakh. Whereas, in case of partial permanent disability, the passenger gets a compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh. On the other hand, if you are injured in a railway accident, then you get a compensation of Rs 2 lakh in the name of hospital expenses.
What are the prerequisites for getting travel insurance?
You will not get compensation just by taking travel insurance, for this there are some important conditions which you have to fulfill, only after that you will get compensation from this travel insurance. According to the IRCTC website, this facility provided by IRCTC is applicable only to those who book e-tickets. That is, you will get this only when you book tickets online. Secondly, if travel insurance is taken for all the tickets booked from one PNR number, it will apply equally to all tickets. This facility of travel insurance is only for confirmed, CNF or RAC.
