‘If doctors are not safe then…’, High Court strict on vandalism in Kolkata’s RG hospital

Calcutta High Court on Doctor Rape Murder Case: The Calcutta High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case of vandalism in RG Kar College and Hospital after the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata. The court expressed displeasure over this and asked the state government how 7 thousand people suddenly gathered.

The state government’s lawyer said that as soon as we got information about the incident, the police took immediate action. The court commented on this and said that 7000 people do not suddenly gather like this. Videos related to this incident were shown in the court.

‘How will doctors work in such a palace of fear’

The court made a strict comment and said that if the situation is like this then close the hospital and shift the patients to some other hospital, then when the hospital itself is closed, then that kind of ruckus will not happen. How will the doctors work in such a palace of fear. The court also watched the video of the vandalism that took place in the IG hospital on the night of 14 August.

The CBI has summoned the former principal of RG Kar College and Hospital for questioning in this case. The lawyer of the former principal argued in the court and said that I am ready for the CBI investigation but there is a continuous protest going on outside my house, if I get security then I can appear before the CBI today itself.

Victim’s photo should not be shared: High Court

The court has sought full details of the incident from the police, The court said that if the doctor does not get security then how will he work. The CBI has full right to go to the scene of the incident and investigate the facts. The CBI was also asked to give an interim report in this case. The court said that the picture of the victim should neither be shown in the media nor made public.
