‘If this had happened in Assam then…’, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s big statement on Kolkata rape case

Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Protests are being held across the country over the incident at RG Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The Bharatiya Janata Party is attacking CM Mamata Banerjee and the state police over this incident. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “You can see my record of three years. If the heinous crime that happened in Kolkata had happened in Assam, our government would have provided immediate justice. The opposition in the state criticizes this policy of mine but it does not matter to me. There will be no compromise in protecting daughters.”

‘Justice will be served in Kolkata case’

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Assam government has also taken steps to ensure the safety of doctors, especially women doctors, in medical colleges and hospitals. He said that we hope that the parents of the female trainee who was raped and then murdered at Kolkata’s RG Medical College will get justice.

Hearing will be held in Supreme Court

The body of a junior doctor in Kolkata was found in the seminar hall of the Medical College and Hospital on the morning of August 9. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra will hear the case on Tuesday (August 20, 2024).

On Monday (August 19), the BJP demanded resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The party alleged that important evidence was destroyed at her behest to save the culprits of the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata.
