TMC On Ambedkar Remarks: During the discussion on the Constitution in the Lok Sabha, Dr. B.R. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks regarding Ambedkar have created a political uproar. TMC leader Derek O’Brien has filed a notice of breach of privilege in the Rajya Sabha against Shah. The opposition called it an insult to Ambedkar and his Constitution, while the BJP called it a political agenda. Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had demanded the resignation of the Home Minister and accused him of insulting Ambedkar.

Amit Shah, while targeting the Congress during the debate on 75 years of the Constitution, had said, “If they had taken the name of God as many times as the name of Ambedkar, they would have got heaven for seven births.” After this statement, the opposition expressed strong opposition. Shah accused Congress of using Ambedkar’s name for vote bank politics.

TMC’s stance
The TMC leader filed a notice under Rule 187 of the Rajya Sabha. It has been said in the notice that Amit Shah’s remarks are an insult to the dignity of Parliament and the creator of the Constitution, Ambedkar. This comment is against the values ​​of democracy and the respect of the House. At the same time, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee termed this comment as “insulting” and said that it is an insult to Ambedkar’s legacy and his ideas.

Reaction of Congress and other opposition parties
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition leaders launched a scathing attack on Amit Shah and the BJP. Kharge alleged that BJP and RSS want to weaken the Constitution and try to implement Manusmriti. Insulting Ambedkar is part of BJP’s ideology. Many opposition leaders also termed Shah’s remarks as a disrespect to Ambedkar’s thoughts and the Constitution.
