Amidst the ongoing speculation about change of leadership in Karnataka politics, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has given a big statement. He clearly said that at present there is no change in the post of Chief Minister in the state, although the issue of leadership will be resolved soon.

Discussion on decision intensified after election results
This statement of Kharge has come at a time when there is a strong discussion in the ruling Congress and political circles that after the results of assembly elections of four states and one union territory are declared on May 4, a decision can be taken on change of leadership and cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka.

Here, supporters of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are continuously claiming that after the victory of Congress in the 2023 assembly elections, it was agreed that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will hold the post of Chief Minister one by one during the five-year tenure. This discussion has further intensified the stir within the party.

Demand was also raised to make Kharge the CM
Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Wednesday that if senior and experienced leader Mallikarjun Kharge becomes the Chief Minister, then all the party leaders will welcome it. This statement further fueled political speculation.

Kharge’s answer – ‘There is no question at present’
Responding to Parmeshwar’s statement, Kharge said, ‘The media and some people say that it would be better if I become the Chief Minister. But more than luck, it is Sonia Gandhi who takes decisions about me on the basis of my ideology and my service to the party. He further said, ‘This question does not arise right now, because there is already a Chief Minister in the state. If Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and I together take any decision, it will take time. For now we will have to wait.

Tension increased with completion of half term
The Congress government of Karnataka has completed half of its five-year term on 20 November 2025. Since then, speculations about change of Chief Minister have intensified and the tussle regarding leadership within the party is increasing.

Discussion of MLAs going to Delhi
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (S) leader and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy has claimed that amid the ongoing tussle in the Congress, around 40 MLAs are preparing to go to Delhi next month. On this Kharge said, ‘I do not know about this, you ask him only.’
