Jammu Kashmir Election 2024: Pakistan is keeping a close eye on the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan hopes that Article 370 and 35A will be restored in Kashmir once again. In a conversation with Geo News, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has made a big statement about Kashmir. He said, ‘Pakistan and the National Conference-Congress alliance are on the same page to restore Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir.’
This time Congress is silent on the issue of restoration of Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress has not even mentioned this in its election manifesto. But yesterday Rahul Gandhi has talked about giving full statehood status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Article 370 became an election issue in Kashmir elections
Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir told Defence Minister Khawaja Asif during his programme that ‘Sheikh Abdullah and Nehru had decided Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir. Now both these parties are saying in the elections that if their government is formed, they will reinstate 370 and 35A.’ Do you think this is possible? Responding to this question, the Pakistani minister said, ‘This is possible. Both the National Conference and the Congress have a significant presence in Jammu and Kashmir. Hopefully they will also come to power, they have made it an election issue.’
What does Pakistan want regarding Kashmir?
In response to Hamid Mir’s next question, the Pakistani minister said that Pakistan and the National Conference-Congress alliance are on the same page regarding the restoration of Article 370 and 35A. Khawaja said that Pakistan has always demanded that the status of Kashmir be restored.
Omar Abdullah separates from Congress on the issue of 370
Currently, there is no demand for restoration of 370 and 35A in the Congress manifesto for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress is currently only demanding full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, Congress’s ally National Conference Party is raising its voice loudly for the restoration of 370 and 35A. BJP leaders are attacking Congress on this issue.
