Sambhal Shahi Masjid Survey: The survey of Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh started again on Sunday (24 November), the survey was being done in the presence of both the parties. Meanwhile, protests against the survey started and the protesters pelted stones at the police. The crowd pelted stones at the police outside the mosque, the police also detained many protesters.
After this uproar by the protesters, the survey of the mosque has been stopped and the police has also fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. Along with this, the police has also resorted to lathicharge to control the crowd. When the survey was being conducted inside the mosque, the crowd standing outside the mosque pelted stones at the police team.
The team for the survey had reached the mosque at 7.30, after some time the crowd came and sloganeering started. After this the team explained to them and then went inside. After this the crowd again started making noise and started pelting stones. Then the Masjid Committee team and the police explained to the people and also gave them instructions. A few youths had come to two streets and started pelting stones. At present, police is deployed outside the mosque and after bringing the situation under control, the survey has started again.
After senior advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain filed a petition in the court of the civil judge of Sambhal claiming the mosque to be a temple, a similar survey was conducted in the presence of the local police and members of the mosque’s management committee on November 19. Let us tell you that after the Hindu side told the court that it was Harihar Temple, the court, while hearing the petition, had ordered a survey of Sambhal Masjid.
