Rajeev Singh becomes the new DGP of Manipur, transferred from Tripura a day earlier

Manipur Gets New DGP: A major administrative reshuffle has taken place in Manipur amid the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah. 1993 batch IPS officer Rajeev Singh has been made the new DGP of the state. A day before, his cadre was transferred to Manipur for three years. He was posted as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force. This information has been given in an official order.

According to sources, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajeev Singh has been appointed to the post of DGP to handle the current security situation in the state. According to an official order, the Central Government has recently appointed IPS officer Rajeev Singh, who came to Manipur from Tripura cadre, as the DGP of the state. According to the order of the Union Home Ministry, Singh’s appointment will be for three years. The Home Ministry has also directed the CRPF to relieve Singh with immediate effect so that he can take up his new assignment.

Why did Manipur burn due to caste conflict?
Soon after violence broke out in the northeastern state of Manipur on May 3, the central government appointed former CRPF chief Kuldeep Singh as security advisor to the Manipur government. For the past one month, Manipur has been burning due to ethnic conflict and all efforts of the government to restore peace have failed. The situation in Manipur was slowly improving, but after almost a fortnight of peace, clashes broke out again between militants and security forces on Sunday.

So far 30 people have lost their lives in the conflict
Officials of security agencies said that since the violence started on May 3, 80 people have lost their lives in the conflict. It may be noted that caste violence had erupted after the Meitei community in Manipur organized a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against their demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
