Sachin Tendulkar demands removal of impact player before the final, one bowler bowls 5 overs; suggestions given

God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar has demanded the removal of the Impact Player rule before the final of IPL 2026. Along with this, Sachin Tendulkar has given many other suggestions regarding IPL, which are in discussion. Sachin says that any one bowler should be allowed to bowl five overs.

Sachin Tendulkar demanded to end impact player

Former batsman Sachin Tendulkar said at the ESPNcricinfo awards ceremony, “My personal opinion is that the ‘impact player’ rule should be abolished. I feel that in the T20 format you have to play only 20 overs. Then you add another batsman to the line-up, where the bowlers are already facing challenges, there I see an imbalance.”

In the last few seasons in the IPL, the scale of play has tilted largely in favor of the batsmen and Tendulkar believes that this rule has worsened the already existing disparity between bat and ball. This rule has also been criticized by many prominent players, including Indian captain Shubman Gill and former captain Rohit Sharma. He argues that this rule eliminates skills from the game and reduces the importance of the all-rounder.

Two over powerplay for bowlers

Sachin Tendulkar advocated the introduction of bowling powerplay along with the existing batting powerplay. He said, “Powerplay is applicable in the first six overs in which only two fielders remain outside the 30-yard circle. I believe that the first four overs should be powerplay for the batsmen, with the same fielding restrictions applied in them. After this, the remaining two overs of powerplay can be taken by the fielding captain as per his wish. In these two consecutive overs, an additional fielder can be deployed outside the ring at any stage of the game.”

Sachin also proposed to increase the bowling quota of a bowler from four overs to five. He said, “A bowler should be allowed to bowl five overs, because usually the best bowler in the team will bowl the fifth over. Wouldn’t you want the best bowler to bowl more. Top batsmen sometimes bat for 20 overs, so why shouldn’t the best bowler bowl five overs.”
